I just looked at your website and found it to be one
of the best I've seen . I was shocked to think that I
have known you for a few years and never seen this
side of you. Your poems were GREAT.But I still like
mine the best.(hahaha) "New Years Eve On Fortieth
Street" Steve I hope you and your family the
best.

Thanks my good friends.  If you will type out that long forgotten poem I will post it somewhere on the site.  It was playfully written and humorous as I recall... steven

i saw.  your poetry speaks, to me, to everything.  i
would really appreciate it if you checked out my
poetry site and if you could link to it, that would
be great (i'm planning on linking to your site either
way).  thanks, gilboa

Thank for sending such a kind response back to my web site by signing my guestbook.  I am sorry I have been so slow in returning your message.  I did look at your site < www.page8.2ya.com>
and was delighted by what I saw there.  You truly have done some nice work  Thanks again, Steve Hodgin 2/21/03

Great stuff here. I still remember my first interest
in poetic lyrics when I heard the lines from a Dylan
song in 1965..."Cracked bells and washed out
horns, blow into my face with scorn, but its not that
way I wasn't born....to lose you..." -Tom

Thanks, Tom  I appreciate your comments.  If I could wish any one thing it would be to learn music.  So many of my poems have tunes I do not know how to write.  Steven

I love DOGS!       ...Sarah Bendit

This response has me confused since there are no poems on my site except the one on the guest pages by a friend of mine who refused to accept responsibility for it.  Or were you referring to "Frogs"???  confused...steven

Steve, neat site.  I remember your poetry well, and have always enjoyed your artistic talent shown in your sign art, drawings, etc. I wish I had your talent.
Mac Gardner     Tulsa

Thanks, Mac  It is good to hear from such an old friend (no reference to your age).  Stop by and visit if you are in the area.  I would love to visit with you and your family again.  I think I may write a poem about you wife's family house house I rented from you.  I have magical memories of the attic with all its turn of the century messages.  ( the attic walls were all adorned with diary notations from family members)
Your friend, Steve Hodgin

From: "Mike OrtonSubject: just stumbled upon your site, quite by chance   Date: Fri, 21 Feb 2003 12:57:35 -0600
Hello Steve,,,My name is Mike Orton I live in joplin Missouri and quite by accident stumbled upon your webb site and thoroughly enjoyed it.   I was doing a yahoo search on c.s.elliot and it somehow directed me to one of your webb pages.   You would be amazed to know how much your work and that of my retired (sign artist) father in law appear to have came from the same old school of sign painting,,,He is now 75 and painted signage up until he lost his business location about 2 years ago....Personally I own and operate a collision repair business in joplin and have dabbled at custom free hand pinstriping...I have a great appreciation for the talent that both you and my father in law Ray Basset  (Ray Bassett Signs) have in common.  Among other things, he is also a jeweler, craftsman, landscape and portrait painter and now avid computer enthisiast. His life story is an amazing one as well. As a child growing up in Joplin, he lived two doors down from the infamous Bonnie and Clyde while they cooled down or layed low in Joplin, prior to the notorius shoot out with police that was portrayed in the movie.  He tells me he and other neighborhood boys sat in Bonnies lap eating cookies listening to her regal about her adventures on the road.  After being bayonetted and left for dead,in post war cleanup in the pacific WW11. he recooperated and studied jewelry making in kansas city. He returned to Joplin and eventually moved west to New Mexico where my wife was born...More tales,,,,,  His trade eventually brought him back to the midwest where he and his wife and partner painted signs for pepsi cola on old brick buildings all over southeast kansas.  I am forwarding your site to him that he may also enjoy it.  I still am discovering nooks and crannies of your site as I  had to back into the main pages from my original search and am looking forward to spending some time later reading more of your poetry.  Take care,,,,,Mike

Dear Mike,
Thank you  I am going to publish your letter as a guestbook entry and will probably reply there to it just a bit.  I would love to meet your Pa in law someday if opportunity avails itself.  I always enjoy talking to other sign writers from days of yore.  I am glad you enjoyed the site and hope you will return from time to time since I am always adding to it.  I am currently working on sign and restaurant diplays and murals, using my small farm as a base of operation.  I also occasionally indulge in a bit of auto painting but seemingly never without some formidable regret!!!I am located a mile north of Rogers Ar on Dixieland Road.  I enjoy the work but I just as thoroughly enjoy sluffing off when I can get away with it so I have more time to write or do work on my house or garden.  Hope this letter finds you prosperous and well.  Steve Hodgin

Steven,  Thanks for informing me of your web page of
poetry.  Reading your poetry is like a journey through
endless emotions.  You have a way with writing poetry
and I hope only the best for you as you continue to
write.   Thanks for making me smile and cry and laugh
with such a variety of writings.  unsigned

Hey I really do appreciate the kind comments but I sure wish you would all leave a name.  I don't have any idea why it should matter but somehow it just feels more right!  steven
