Both Sleeping
Faces written with contentment
and both are fast asleep
two hands touching

Tiny child sprawls haphazardly
 upon Grandmother's lap
Grandfather studies...

The aged, time lined face,
knurled fingers resting
on perfection

Those arms which held him once
also held his mother
in tender care

She who held his children close
holds this little one
with no less love

Past and future brought together
on his Grandmother's lap...
a new generation

Time Eternal views for but a moment
in disconcerted gaze
...but smiles.

by Steve Hodgin March 2000

...dedicated to my Grandmother, whose heart is greater than 5 generations, and to my Granddaughter, whose heart shall guide the future.
