"The Dance"
One Couple danced across the floor,
In perfect harmony;
With eyes on one another,
Romanced in rhapsody.

And to the blues, their steppin' shoes,
Kept rythym to the tune,
And would have gone forever,
But the music stopped too soon.

Could you imagine love so grand,
It harmonized the hearts,
and souls of those who kept in time,
As Cupid cast his darts?

And could you imagine dancing on a stage,
So all the world could see,
The magic of the dance,
If you were her, and I was he?

Author's Note:

This poem is one of my favorites.  I got the inspiration for writing it while watching a married couple on the dance floor at Teddy's Restaurant and Club in Oklahoma City.  They were skillful dancers and obviously very much in love. I wrote the poem while watching them dance.

After this dance I asked their names and drew their names in color (one of my hobbies while people watching) on a nice small sheet of paper, carefully copying the poem on the back.  They appreciated the gesture, but I appreciated far more the inspiration to write this very romantic poem.
